More Loma Colorado crosswalks are scheduled for removal this month. After the removal of two crosswalks in the fall, three more will be removed as warmer weather moves in: at Meseta Court, Loma Vista Blvd. and Los Miradores Drive (east). The project started as a result of comments Loma Colorado HOA Manager Brand Hetherington made in October 2021 regarding speeding and pedestrian crossings in the area, Peter Wells, deputy city manager, said via email. Sprng sports are about to get underway at Eagle Ridge Middle School. Tryouts for baseball and softball are set for next week: 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15; 3:45-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16; and 3:45-5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. Residents of the Meseta Vista section of Loma Colorado are in for a sweet treat on Valentine’s Day. Rosa Maria Lopez, operator of Rosa’s Sweet Treats, is hosting a Valentine’s Day bake sale from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday in the park by the Meseta Vista sign. “It’s just something I do on the side,” she said of her baking. There was an unexpected twist of events Friday morning as about one-third of Eagle Ridge Middle School students were honored for their academic success. So many parents and supporters showed up the honor roll recognition ceremony had to be moved from the cafeteria to the gym. Sextortion are up significantly in New Mexico in 2022, the NM FBI said in a warning statement to parents and children. According to data released by the agency, there were 168 e-tips or calls about possible cases in the state reported to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center this year through Dec. 19; that’s compared to 38 for the same time period in 2021. Nearly 30 Albuquerque families are having a brighter holiday season thanks to Sunday’s 28th annual Cops for Kids event Sunday, Dec. 11. The day started off at 8 a.m. at Silva Lanes, with Santa and Mrs. Claus flying in on the Albuquerque Police Department’s helicopter. The parking lot of Ventana Ranch Elementary School was full of Corvettes, convertibles and other show-quality cars Saturday afternoon as participants gathered for the Ventana Ranch Christmas Parade.As the car owners mixed and mingled, members of the Albuquerque Fire Rescue were on hand, letting kids climb into their truck and honk the horn.
