Let your student go full STEAM ahead this summer.
Registration is open for the Summer STEAM Experience. The program is a free, 12-day engineering and computer science-based program for students of Albuquerque Public Schools currently in sixth through eighth grade.
Participants will travel to the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center early in the program to learn about challenges the center faces that can be addressed through computer science-based engineering solutions. They will then design a prototype solution from one of three pathways: eTextiles, robotics or 3-D printing) in a camplike environment at their school site. They will then return to the center to share their prototypes with staff and collect feedback.
The Summer STEAM Experience runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 13-30. Students can attend at Manzano High School, Del Norte High School, Valley High School and Rio Grande High School. Transportation will be provided from four locations: Hayes Middle School to Manzano, Eisenhower Middle School to Del Norte, LBJ Middle School to Valley, and Jimmy Carter Middle School to Rio Grande.
Registration is open through May 29 or until a site reaches capacity. Each site is limited to 75 students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Online registration can be made here; a form will need to be filled out for each student. For enrollment questions, call 505-872-6878.
