This year’s India Day celebration at North Domingo Baca Park lands on the 75-year anniversary of the country’s independence from the British Empire. The cost of gasoline has decreased for seven consecutive weeks, with the average price at $3.53 in Albuquerque as of Aug. 11, according to AAA data. Last week, the average was $3.70, a month ago it was $4.37 and a year ago it was $3.04 a gallon. New Mexico’s average price of fuel for Aug. 11 was $3.74. The national average was $3.99 a gallon, the first time it’s been below $4 since early March. Rio Rapids Soccer Club players will take the field before the Sept. 2 New Mexico United game against El Paso Locomotive in recognition for their contribution to the soccer community. A documentary about UFO researcher Norio Hayakawa is complete and set to premiere on the big screen soon. Portions of the documentary, titled “The Conspiratologist,” were filmed at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center and at Hayakawa’s house in the Northeast Heights. The documentary is a Weekender Media production directed by filmmakers Justin Jay Jones and Stephen Bradford. Registration for before- and after-school programs at Double Eagle and North Star elementary schools is now open through Children’s Choice. Students working toward obtaining their driver’s license can now fulfill the 56 defensive driving classroom hours at La Cueva High School while also obtaining half an elective credit. The class will take place from 2:35-3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday in room G-6 at LCHS.
