La Cueva’s boys varsity soccer team grabbed a 4-1 win against West Mesa during Thursday’s Metro Championships matchup. La Cueva took an early goal lead when midfielder Malcolm Starr scored the first goal for the Bears, hitting the ball in the back of the net after a well-placed corner kick. It was another goal fest at the Albuquerque Metro Championships on Thursday. This time it was Albuquerque Academy’s boys varsity soccer team crushing the net. The Chargers scored 10 goals against the Monarchs in the latest matchup of the tourney. Academy’s girls also scored 10 goals against the lady Monarchs in their Wednesday matchup, but the keeper couldn’t keep a clean sheet in that game, letting one goal through. The Academy boys have a record of 1-0-1 for the season, having tied Atrisco Heritage 1-1 in their first matchup of the tournament. So far the team has scored 11 goals…

Albuquerque Police Community Outreach announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of being involved in a string of burglaries throughout the city Friday morning. Kellie Shugart was arrested for allegedly burglarizing dozens of businesses, including nail and hair salons and spas, APD’s Community Outreach statement reads. Dylan Zisman was also arrested in connection to the burglaries. Shugart surrendered to police on Thursday after barricading herself inside an apartment near Montgomery Blvd. and Louisiana Blvd. She is suspected of burglarizing businesses that sell beauty supplies as well as targeting the CNM Montoya Campus, a framing business and a dispensary. Albuquerque Academy’s varsity girls soccer team wasn’t able to match La Cueva’s 10-goal shutout against Valley, but Wednesday’s match against Manzano was still a goal fest. The Chargers slid past the Monarchs for a 10-1 win during their second Metro Championships game at the APS Soccer Complex. Academy senior Anna Babinski scored a hat trick and junior Piper Wiese scored two goals for the Chargers. Sophomores Maile Maldonado, Layla Logan, Reily Cates and freshmen A. Gas prices in Albuquerque are on the rise again. According to AAA data, the average price of gasoline in the Duke City is $3.70 as of Wednesday, Aug. 24. A week ago, on Aug. 17, the average price was $3.46.
