The Civil Air Patrol will be at the Heights First Church of Nazarene from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 29 to demonstrate the leadership skills they’ve been learning during a public open house. Maj. They continued their undefeated streak during the Albuquerque Metro Championships over the weekend, toppling Valley 3-1 on Friday, and then shutting out both Rio Rancho and Cleveland 3-0 on Saturday. La Cueva’s varsity volleyball team is on a five-game winning streak. They play Manzano next in a nondistrict home game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. SoccerAlbuquerque Academy’s boys varsity soccer team defeated Piedra Vista 9-1 on Thursday but couldn’t keep the momentum, losing to Hobbs 3-2 on Friday and then being shut out by Sandia Prep 2-0 on Saturday. The three games were part of the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, which saw teams from all over New Mexico play on the Chargers’ home turf. Madison Middle School hosted its first volleyball games of the season against Desert Ridge on Wednesday, ending the night with one win and one loss. The average price of gas in Albuquerque decreased 11 cents since last week, according to AAA data. Last week, on Aug. 31, the average price of regular was $3.65. On Wed., Sept. 7, the average price was $3.54. Members of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will be visiting California to learn from the successes of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, as well as taking inventory of new equipment to include a replacement for the Metro 2 helicopter that crashed July 16.
