Last year 783,866 guests attended the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, down from the 866,414 that attended in 2019. This year the number of visitors is expected to be higher as there are fewer COVID restrictions and because it is the festival’s 50th anniversary. Football Albuquerque Academy’s homecoming weekend went out with bang as the Chargers stomped Los Alamos 35-0 on Saturday, Sept. 24. Quarterback Andres Rivera threw 13 completions for a total of 207 passing yards for the senior, according to MaxPreps stats. FootballLa Cueva’s varsity football team defeated Albuquerque High 48-8 Saturday, Sept. 24, in a non-conference away game. The Bears are 5-1 this season and are ranked No. 1 in Albuquerque by MaxPreps. They are ranked No. 2 in New Mexico and Class 6A, behind Centennial High School, which has a 28.1 rating by MaxPreps.
