The top five gyms in northeast Albuquerque to burn off that extra helping of turkey, mashed potatoes and red chile are Defined Fitness Sandia Club, Planet Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, Snap Fitness ABQ Carmel and Del Norte Sports and Wellness.

These gyms were chosen based on their proximity to residential neighborhoods, hours of operation, Yelp reviews and easy access to other locations for members. The Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque and North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center get honorable mentions for the additional amenities, activities and friendly staff that provide much more than just a workout room.

Best gyms in the Northeast Heights

    1. Defined Fitness Sandia Club ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌤

This Defined Fitness location at 3301 Juan Tabo NE is within easy walking distance of the Cielito Lindo, Eldorado Heights, Holiday Park, La Reina de Los Altos, Enchanted Park and Matheson Park neighborhoods. The hours of operation are from 4:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The gym gets a 3.5-star rating on Yelp with 77 reviews. Defined Fitness has eight full-service clubs in Albuquerque and is offering a $1 membership that includes three personal training sessions now through Nov. 30. One five-star 2017 Yelp review from Kandrise V. of Albuquerque reads:

I joined this gym about 1 year ago and I absolutely love it!! My favorite part was that there is a daycare with a 2 hour limit as well as no additional fee for children! The gym is clean and the staff are always so friendly!!

    1. Planet Fitness Eubank ⭐️⭐️🌤

The 1518 Eubank Blvd. NE Planet Fitness location is a walk or bike ride away from the Oso Grande, SY Jackson, San Gabriel and Eldorado Heights neighborhoods. The gym is open 24 hours Monday through Thursday, midnight to 9 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There are 10 Planet Fitness locations throughout Albuquerque and more than 2,000 worldwide, providing easy access for members at all hours of the day. The PF Black Card provides access to any Planet Fitness in the world and cost $24.99 a month, plus taxes and an annual $39 fee during their Black Friday special. The Eubank location received a 2.5-star Yelp rating with 36 reviews. Although the one-star reviews outnumber the five-star ones, several people had good things to say about Planet Fitness Eubank. Alexander R. of McKnight, Pennsylvania, left a five-star review earlier this year which reads:

As a Traveler passing through Albuquerque NM, I recommend this Planet Fitness. All I wanted was a good workout, good smelling bathroom, & a good shower. On top of that the staff were friendly and they had a wide variety in machines including some I’ve not seen at other Planet Fitness’. Overall, a fantastic experience for a Friday night about 6:30-9pm.

Top gyms in Albuquerque’s Far Northeast Heights

    1. Orangetheory Fitness Albuquerque Far Northeast Heights ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Orangetheory Fitness at 8850 Holly Ave. NE is a super convenient location for residents living in the Vineyard Estates neighborhood and is not too far of a trek from Heritage Hills, Heritage East, Cherry Hills, Academy North, Quintessence and North Albuquerque Acres. The gym is open 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and 6:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There are three locations in Albuquerque, and locations  can also be found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Europe and the Middle East, four Asian-Pacific and seven Latin American countries. There are multiple membership types, and a Newvember promotional offer that includes nationwide access to all Orangetheory Fitness gyms at discount rates. The far northeast Albuquerque location receives a four-star Yelp rating with 20 reviews. One five-star review from Cz R. of Albuquerque reads:

Love Orangetheory! I have been going for 6 months, it has changed both my physical and mental well being. All the staff are professional and courteous.  The owners are truly phenomenal.  It’s a community, not just a workout!! If you’re thinking about it, do it.

    1. Snap Fitness ABQ Carmel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The 7900 Carmel Ave. NE location is nestled in the La Cueva Town Center next to Magic Nails and IT Dimsum, making it an ideal location for North Domingo Baca, West La Cueva, Vineyard Estates and Countrywood residents. There are two locations in Albuquerque and more than 900 Snap Fitness clubs worldwide. The gym is open 24 hours, seven days a week and is currently offering three months of access for $119. The Carmel location only has four reviews on Yelp with an overall four-star rating. Chad C. gives a five-star rating, with a lengthy review that reads:

Small, clean and friendly gym in NE ABQ.  The diverse clientele seems to enjoy the variety of machines and weights.  The owner is present much of the time, and the new faces of trainers Jeremy and Cassandra add a pleasant professionalism to the location.  They are very diligent in their training and cleaning of the facility – which is greatly appreciated.  Most of the clients are respectful of each other, despite a few typical meatheads that like to throw their weights around…and of course there’s the occasional “selfie” crowd that seems more interested in posting IG photos than actually working out.  I guess that’s normal nowadays!

Overall, a solid, non-intimidating community gym.  Highly recommend.

    1. Del Norte Sports and Wellness ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cherry Hills, Heritage Hills, Heritage East and North Wyoming residents enjoy convenient access to tennis, swimming and workout equipment at the 7120 Wyoming Blvd. location. The wellness center is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The health club is one of five Wellbridge Sports & Wellness centers in Albuquerque. A $0 enrollment fee and 50% off December dues promotion is being offered now through Nov. 30. The Wyoming location receives a three-star Yelp rating with 52 reviews. Melissa M. of Albuquerque gave a five-star review in 2021, writing:

Great gym, all the employees are friendly, the place is clean! The classes are fun! And I am able to bring my daughter swimming!
