The New Mexico Department of Transportation installed a sign that reads “right turn on red after stop” at the Paseo Del Norte and Tramway intersection. After installing a new turn signal for drivers turning south onto Tramway, some people were confused as to whether they could turn on the red light or not.
Several complaints were made before NMDOT decided to install the sign to provide further instruction to drivers. Some residents are still unhappy about the design of the intersection. One NextDoor post reads, “Is this correct? You stop at the line when the light is red, then move forward to a place where you cannot see if traffic is coming on your left? It seems like the problem has not been solved.”
The speed limit on Tramway Boulevard is 55 miles per hour, and southbound traffic can be busy at certain times of the day. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution and wait until traffic is clear before turning right on to Tramway from Paseo.
