1.The Albuquerque Astronomical Society is holding the Cosmic Carnival 2022 at the Open Space Visitor Center from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The free event will feature the carnival and a star party on the patio, where attendees can view the sky from 6-10 p.m.
3. It’s a big sports weekend for Volcano Vista High School as the football team competes in the state playoffs and the cross-country teams will try to win another state championship. The boys and girls cross-country teams, which both won state last year, will try to win another blue trophy Saturday at Albuquerque Academy. The girls run at 9 a.m. and the boys compete at 9:45 a.m. The Hawks football team plays in the state playoffs against Atrisco Heritage at 7 p.m. Friday at Community Stadium.
Citywide events
4. Food Truck Fridays have been extended through the next two months (with the exception of holidays). So instead of packing a lunch, head over to Civic Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to support local food trucks and vendors. Additional dates of the popular program’s extension are Nov. 18, Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. For more information and updates, visit cabq.gov/fridays.
5. In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the Indigenous Life Celebration & Powwow will run all day Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The day’s activities will promote traditional wellness and cultural ways of life for Native children, teens and families. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., join the Gratitude Walk/Run, Indigenous games, Indigenous dances, land-based learning and cultural enrichment activities. At 1 p.m., enjoy the feast day meal, and from 4-10 p.m. check out the youth powwow. Marketplace vendors will also be available from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
6. Halloween may be over, but Frankenstein is still coming to town. The University of New Mexico Department of Theatre and Dance present “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein,” adapted by Gregory Moss, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as Nov. 11-13 at the UNM Rodeo Theatre. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. The iconic monster is given a new life in this new adaptation of the classic story as it holds up a mirror to the monsters that are in all of us. Tickets are currently on sale.
7. Join Animal Humane New Mexico for the 40th annual Doggie Dash & Dawdle at the Balloon Fiesta Park Multi-Use Facility. Billed as Albuquerque’s must-attend pet vent, attendees can participate in a 5K dash, a one-mile dawdle or enjoy the Doggie Carnival and Marketplace filled with local vendors and rescue groups. Those who can’t attend have the option of becoming a “Virtual Dasher.” Hours for the event are 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
