Here’s a look at what’s happening this weekend in Northwest Albuquerque:

  1. There will be a pair of Christmas parades in the neighborhood Saturday. The Ventana Ranch Neighborhood Association is holding a Christmas parade from 3-4 p.m. at Ventana Ranch Elementary School. Volcano Vista High School’s football team will hold its third annual light parade from 5-6:30 p.m. around Ventana Ranch Park.
  2. Coldwell Banker Legacy Cottonwood is hosting a Santa Meet and Greet Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Brokers will be on hand to say thank you and meet your families. There will be pictures with Santa and holiday food, fun and cheer.
  3. There will be a holiday craft fair at Volcano Vista High School Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring handmade crafts, live entertainment, music and food.

Citywide events

4. The Animal Welfare Department, Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres and Best Friends Animal Society are joining forces this weekend by participating in the  “Bring Home Holiday Happiness” National Adoption Weekend Friday through Sunday at the Eastside and Westside shelters and the Everyday Adoption Center in the Eubank PetSmart. Adoption fees will be waived for all pets, and each adoption will include spay or neuter, a microchip, required vaccinations and one free initial vet visit. Dogs will also come with one free dog training class. Available pets can be found on the AWD website.

5. Step into the world of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” at the Rodey Theatre in Popejoy Hall for its closing weekend. This production, based on the classic 1954 film, marks Landmark Musicals return to the Rodey Theatre stage for the first time in three years. The story centers on two Army buddies who have become a very successful song and team with the goal of helping their former general make a success of his Vermont country inn. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday with tickets starting at $21.50.

6. Popejoy Hall brings Mariachi and Christmas together Friday night as Mariachi Christmas rings in the season. Featuring swirling dresses, lively violins and trumpets, the show presents the sights and sounds of Mexico at Christmas with mariachi music accompanying traditional ballet folklórico. Show time is 7:30 p.m. with tickets ranging from $25-$60.

7. Head downtown to do your holiday shopping, whether your just getting started of finishing up. The Downtown Holiday Shop & Stroll runs from 4-8 p.m. Saturday in the Arts & Cultural District. Shop 15 local retailers while enjoying a wide variety of dining and beverage options, live music and performance options.
