School parades, trunk-or-treat events, live music, sports and fall festivals are all planned to take place in the far Northeast Heights this weekend and into Halloween. Get out of the house and go have some spooky fun attending one of these events happening in a neighborhood near you:
1. Cheer on La Cueva’s girls varsity soccer team as they battle the Cleveland Storm in a quarterfinal match of the 2022 Fuddruckers Soccer State Championships. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Cleveland High School. La Cueva’s varsity football team takes on Farmington in its last game of the regular season Friday, Oct.28, at Wilson Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The boys varsity soccer team play Santa Fe Saturday, Oct. 29, in its first game of the 2022 Fuddruckers Soccer State Championships. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the APS Soccer Complex on the west side. La Cueva’s undefeated varsity volleyball team takes on Sandia in a home conference game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
2. Albuquerque Academy’s girls varsity soccer team plays Bloomfield in a quarterfinal match of the 2022 Fuddruckers Soccer State Championships at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The game is set to take place at Academy. The Chargers’ boys varsity soccer team faces Highland in a quarterfinal match of the boys state championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. That game will also be played at Academy.
3. Madison Middle School is hosting a Fall Dance from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, inside the school gym. Costumes are allowed but not required. The cost is $2, with proceeds from ticket and snack sales going to the PTA.
4. The Quintessence Neighborhood Association’s annual Fall Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Apple bobbing, pumpkin carving and a costume contest with prizes are all part of the festivities. The event is scheduled to run until 1 p.m. at Quintessence Park.
5. Chill out at the Tlur Pa Lounge while listening to live music from The Dream Merchants Band inside Sandia Resort & Casino, Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The lounge is on the main floor of the casino, where guests mingle over cocktails and see what’s playing on the 25-foot video wall.
6. Put on those superhero costumes and head over to the Church of the Nazarene Saturday, Oct. 29, for a couple hours of fun trunk-or-treating. The church is located at 8401 Paseo del Norte Blvd. The fun begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
7. Join the Fun with Forgery poetry workshop at Cherry Hills Library from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Rebecca Aronson, an English instructor at CNM, will teach attendees the ins and outs of imitating stylistic and syntactic choices of various poems. 8. Several elementary schools are hosting Halloween parades Monday, Oct. 31, during school hours, with parents invited to participate. Costumes must adhere to the school dress code. Check your inbox for information from the school your student attends for more info.
9. Trunk-or-Treat at Balloon Fiesta Park takes place from 4-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Costumes are encouraged, and candy will be available at different locations throughout the park. 10. The North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center is hosting a Halloween Fright Night from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Call 505-764-6475 for more information about the event and to learn how to become a member.
11. Hoffmantown Church presents A Glitch In Time, a free fall festival for safe indoor Halloween trick-or-treating. Games, candy, hot dogs and an inflatable slide will be available at the event. Citywide events
12. Thrill the World from Albuquerque as part of a “Thriller” zombie dance Saturday at Ventana Ranch Park. Dancing zombies are wanted for a worldwide dance to the Michael Jackson classic. The dance is free to learn and participate in. Check-in is at 2 p.m. with photos and dress rehearsal following. Thrill time is at 4 p.m. Preregister with Eventbrite.
13. If you haven’t been on an Albucreepy Ghost Walk: Taverns & Tales yet, this weekend’s the perfect opportunity as Halloween approaches. The tour, starting at Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town, features three stops at Sawmill and Old Town area watering holes. Over 150 minutes and 1.6 miles, explore Albuquerque’s dark side, including historic and haunted sites. Guides will reveal vivid accounts of the city’s most popular ghosts and ghost stories as well as other strange mysteries along the way. Tours run from 7:30-10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday for $30.
14. What would happen if a nuclear reactor is damaged in an attack? Join Chris Perfetti of the University of New Mexico Nuclear Engineering Department as he discusses nuclear reactors and such a scenario as part of Science on Tap at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History Friday. Perfetti will be joined by Dr. Michael Hartshorne, an M.D. in nuclear medicine, who will discuss the health effects of radiation. Third speaker will focus on why the power plant is a key point of conflict, what Russian President Vladimir Putin is thinking and to what end he is likely to escalate the situation. The Science on Tap series of informal talks covers a wide range of science and technology topics, and Friday’s presentation runs from 6-8 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. It is a 21-plus event, and the $5 admission includes a beer ticket; additional drinks will be available for purchase.
15. New Mexico Truck Fest, featuring Los Farmerz, is coming to EXPO New Mexico Saturday. Doors open to the all-ages event at 11 a.m. Tickets range in price depending on the package, but children under 12 are admitted free.
