According to AAA data, the July 6 average price of regular unleaded fuel in Albuquerque was $4.49 a gallon, 13 cents less than last week’s average. A year ago, the average was $3.11 a gallon. New Mexico’s average price of fuel for July 6 is $4.59, and the national average $4.77 a gallon. Albuquerque Academy won the 2021-22 New Mexico Activities Association 4A Director’s Cup for the fourth year in a row. Academy scored 3,080 points, outcompeting second-place Los Alamos, which scored 2,460 points, and third-place Lovington, with 1,660 points. La Cueva High School took first place in the 5A Director’s Cup with 2,860 points. Rio Rancho took second with 2,020 points, and Cleveland third with 1,800 points. Almost every other day, there is a new video or photo on social media showing a wild animal venturing through a Northeast Heights neighborhood, including bears and mountain lions. According to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, that’s normal for this time of year. NMDGF spokesman Ryan Darr said the uptick in sightings is due to numerous factors. Getting to and from Balloon Fiesta Park during large events can be a headache for drivers coming from different parts of the city. Some Uber and Lyft drivers will even cancel requests for trips to the park despite the higher pay during surges. The city has recognized the problem and continues to work on alleviating traffic congestion by turning two-way streets into one-way lanes, providing more traffic cops to the area, and adding rideshare pickup and drop-off locations at the park.
