Albuquerque police officer Ric Ingram doesn’t think having an active neighborhood association will make crime rates go down, but he does think they can help. “Having a block captain is important,” Ingram said during a snow cone with a cop event on Wednesday. He said active and well-organized neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch groups can help APD catch criminals. The average price of gasoline in Albuquerque decreased for the fourth week in a row. According to AAA data, the July 20 average price of regular unleaded fuel in Albuquerque is $4.12 a gallon. Last week, the average was $4.31, and on July 6 the average was $4.49 a gallon. A month ago, the average was $4.77 a gallon. New Mexico’s average price of fuel for July 20 is $4.30, and the national average $4.46 a gallon. North Star Elementary School Principal Misty Smith is urging parents and guardians to register students for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. She said kindergarten enrollment at North Star is lower than expected and that if a student is not enrolled, they should make sure to register soon. “Currently my kindergarten numbers are significantly lower than expected,” Smith said in an email. “I am projected to have around 76 but my current registration is 44 — which seems unusual.” Enrollment numbers for other grades levels are where they are expected to be at North Star, but Smith thinks the numbers for…

An explosion was reportedly heard near South Domingo Baca Arroyo, just east of Ventura, around the same time a portion of the arroyo wall cracked and buckled late Sunday night. Paul Jessen, secretary for the Heritage East Association of Residents, reported the damage on Monday after completing his regular trash patrol through the neighborhood. “I spoke to a worker from the Water Authority today as she was approaching the arroyo,” Jessen wrote in an email. “She told me she had been dispatched to address this issue. The La Cueva High School football team is hosting its annual Lift-A-Thon at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in the school’s weight room. Pledge sheets ae due the day of the event along with any flat donations. Each player is being asked to raise $100. Last year, 139 LCHS football players participated in the Lift-A-Thon, lifting more than 83,600 pounds. The 2021 top lifters were Deven Dyer (1,250 pounds), Antonio Dominguez (1,240 pounds), Edgar Cuvas (1,510 pounds), Tino Reyes (1,375 pounds), Hunter Haemker (1,360 pounds), and Julian Trujillo (1,470 pounds). One neighborhood association is missing a lot of data. According to the Office of Neighborhood Coordination, the association fell “victim to ‘single point failure,’ in which they lost access to important information about membership and financial access due to there being only one individual having access to this information.” The ONC encourages associations and neighborhood groups to have a specific process within the bylaws that allows for information sharing with more than one individual. “Unfortunately, when only one individual has access to information that affects a larger neighborhood group, information can get lost if something happens to that individual and…

It’s going to be another scorcher in the Albuquerque metro, with temperatures expected to be in the triple digits on Tuesday. The National Weather Service is issuing a heat advisory for the second day in a row for the Middle Rio Grande Valley, to include all of Albuquerque. The advisory is in effect from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday for the Middle Rio Grande Valley, Northwest Plateau, Española Valley, Eastern San Miguel County, Quay County, Curry County, Roosevelt County, De Baca County and Chaves County Plains. The following incidents were reported by the Albuquerque Police Department for the week of July 8-14 in the far NE Heights area between Paseo del Norte Boulevard, Louisiana Boulevard, Eubank Boulevard, and Academy Road. There were 73 incidents reported by crimemapping.com for the week. The following 42 incidents do not include traffic stops, direct traffic, onsite traffic, or vehicle accidents without injuries.
