On Saturday, March 5, the Eldorado Golden Eagles varsity basketball team lost the away game in the first round of the NMAA Basketball State Championship to the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars. The final score was 62-58 in the neutral playoff game. Overall, the Eldorado boys team is ranked No. 20 in New Mexico, and No. 13 in New Mexico Division 5A. Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary fifth-grader Harika Reddy placed third in the APS Spelling Bee help on Thursday, March 3. The top five spellers will move on to the New Mexico State Spelling Bee on March 11. Additionally, fifth-grader Luke Brown from Dennis Chavez Elementary came in second place, and eighth-grader Garrick Tam from Cleveland Middle School came in first. Winners in the NM State competition move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will be held in Washington, D.C., June 2, where “Reading Rainbow’s” LaVar Burton will be hosting the event.

Two Boys Donuts at 8520 Montgomery Blvd. NE was burglarized the evening of Thursday, March 3, and the location closed on Friday to clean up and repair damages. The Two Boys Donuts location on Montgomery only opened in November 2021, with four locations locally and counting. The Albuquerque Police Department Memorial Xeriscape Garden at Osuna Road NE and Wyoming Blvd. is more than just a garden as it memorializes local fallen officers throughout the years. Just east of the John Arthur Carillo Northeast Heights Community Police Substation is the entrance to the garden, where a stone monument to fallen APD officers sits. Installed in 1991 by artist Bill Worthen, the granite memorial is part of the city of Albuquerque Public Arts program.
