Dozens of small businesses have been heavily targeted by thieves in the Northeast Heights, from churches to salons, nail shops, smaller eateries and now tattoo shops, all in the last year. According to KOB, at least 10 tattoo shops have been targeted in just the last few weeks. Cellar Door Collective Tattoo shop at Menaul and Wyoming estimated they’ve lost $15,000 to $20,000 in supplies when they were broken into on Saturday, July 16. The Bernalillo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association has put together a Go Fund Me to raise money for the three county sheriff’s deputies and one county firefighter who perished in a helicopter crash on July 16: BCSO Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lt. Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison and Rescue Specialist Matthew King. The goal is $400,000 with roughly $56,000 donated from 386 donors so far. The 2022 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships is coming to Albuquerque with more than 800 bicyclists from all over the country who come to compete for national titles in street road racing competitions. In May, a man now identified as Gary Escareno, aged 46 was found shot in the head in his vehicle in the Northeast Heights near Taco Bell, and now police have arrested three individuals for this alleged murder-for-hire killing. Martin Trujillo, 45, ordered the hit on Escareno, who had a falling out over a rental assistance scheme gone bad when Trujillo refused to pay Escareno; Escarena later robbed Trujillo for his share.
