The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education re-elected Yolanda Montoya-Cordova for a second term as president during a Wednesday meeting. Peggy Muller-Aragón was also re-elected as vice president and Courtney Jackson will again be secretary. Muller-Aragón will serve as chair of the board’s Audit Committee, a position which is usually held by the vice president. Crystal Tapia-Romero will chair the Finance Committee and Danielle Gonzales will chair the Policy Committee. Each term is for one year.

The Albuquerque Police Department is looking in to five recent shootings at the homes of local elected leaders. APD said in a release that no one was injured in the shootings but damage was done to each home. Detectives are working to determine whether the shootings are related at the homes of Bernalillo County Commissioners Adriann Barboa and Debbie O’Malley and of State Sen. The Albuquerque Police Department announced in a release this week that it has teamed up with local partners to create a working group that will assist the city on recruiting efforts to hire more members of the African American community. The purpose of the group is to recruit black men, women and young adults to enroll in the Police Service Aide Program, as well as become Police Officers.  APD also plans to work to recruit qualified individuals to fill civilian positions through institutions like the University of New Mexico, Central New Mexico Community College, and other state universities and colleges. …

Cleveland High School was hit by vandals over the holiday weekend. A message was sent to students, staff, and administration, notifying them that the campus incurred “significant vandalism and damage.” Graffiti was spray-painted on a wall near the football field and reportedly on other structures that had just been installed. Rio Rancho Public Schools is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the offenders. From now until Jan. 10, there will be no charge for registration or trial lessons when new students sign up for weekly classes. The new year deal will save new students a total of $72.99.
