    Boys varsity soccer team finish season first in 4A District 6

    Cross-country

    The Chargers boys varsity team placed third in the 5,000 Meter Run at the Los Alamos Invite, Friday, Oct. 21. They had a total time of 1:32.35 and an average team time of 18:30.96, according to results posted by MileSplit NM. Los Alamos High School took first with an average team time of 17:37.03. William Weinstein placed 11nth for Academy with a time of 18:03.67, and Quint Stein placed 14th with a time of 18:10.30.

    The girls varsity team also placed third in the 5,000 Meter Run at Friday’s meet, behind Sue Cleveland and first-place Los Alamos. The Lady Chargers had a total time of 1:53.22 and an average team time of 22:40.25. Academy’s Isabella Barnes placed 13th with a time of 22:02.33, Vivian Mitchell placed 16th with a time of 22:09.22, and Grace Morneau 17th with a time of 22:11.59.

    Soccer

    Academy’s girls varsity team ended its regular season with a 10-0 blowout against Bernalillo on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Seniors Anna Babinski and Jaclyn Lehrman scored two goals each, with Babinski picking up two assists and Lehrman one. Tess Hatchell, J. Levandoski, A. Spratley, Reily Cates and eighth grader S. Broussard are all credited with a goal apiece by MaxPreps. The Lady Chargers get a bye in the first round of the 4A 2022 Fuddruckers Girls Soccer State Championships. They will play the winner of the Kirtland Central/Bloomfield game during the quarterfinals, Oct. 28-29.

    The boys varsity team finished its season with an undefeated 8-0 record in 4A District 6, smoking Bernalillo 12-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Sophomores Ben Morgan, M. Giermakowski and Jett Galles scored two goals each, as did junior Luke Babinski. Eco Chavez, Grady Gilchrist, Chase Jones and Josh Ma all put one in the back of the net for the Chargers as well. The boys get a bye in the first round of the 4A 2022 Fuddruckers Boys Soccer State Championships. They play the winner of the Highland/Miyamura match in the quarterfinals, Oct. 28-29.

    Football

    Academy’s varsity team lost 43-14 against Lovington during an Oct. 21 district away game. Senior Jaewon Choi and junior Carter Speegle are credited with a touchdown apiece by MaxPreps. Quarterback Andres Rivera completed 15 passes for a total of 202 yards during Friday’s game. The Chargers take on Bernalillo in their last game of the season Friday, Oct. 28. The district away game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

    Volleyball

    The varsity team lost to Valley 3-2 in a district home match Thursday, Oct. 20. They lost the first set 19-25 but came back to win the next two sets 25-17, 25-19 before being defeated 22-25, 9-15 in the last two sets of the game. They play Hope Christian in a district home game at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Chargers have a 9-11 record overall and 3-2 record in 4A District 6.
