    Students at La Cueva High School excelled in many areas throughout 2022. Here’s a look at some of the highlights and top stories about the students and teachers who made the year a success:

    La Cueva High School wins NM Science Olympiad

    For the third year in a row, the La Cueva High School Science Olympiad team took first place in its division at the Feb. 25-26 New Mexico Science Olympiad tournament at New Mexico Tech in Socorro.

    La Cueva golf reigns supreme in metro

    All five of La Cueva’s girls golf team scored under 80 at the 2022 Albuquerque Metro Golf Championships, with an overall score of 348. Photo courtesy of La Cueva Golf.

    The La Cueva High School boys and girls golf teams were the 2022 Albuquerque Metro Golf champions.

    La Cueva cheer places second in state competition

    The La Cueva High School cheer team placed second in its division at the March 18 Spirit State Championship at the Pit.

    As the Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon fires continued to displace residents around Las Vegas, New Mexico, students at La Cueva High School found a way to help.

    Two teams from La Cueva High School’s robotics club qualified to compete in the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas, May 5-7.

    Bears advance to semifinals in state baseball tourney

    La Cueva’s varsity baseball team advanced to the semifinals in the state tournament after defeating Cleveland 8-6. They then lost 3-1 to Sandia but held their heads high as they prepare for next season.

    La Cueva’s speech and debate team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, over the summer to compete in the 2022 National Speech & Debate Tournament.

    Former Bear drafted by KC Royals

    La Cueva High School alumni Jack Pineda was drafted in the 12th round by the Kansas City Royals.

    FOOTBALL FEVER: La Cueva Bears take on Cleveland Storm in 6A state final

    The top two 6A high school football teams in New Mexico fought for the state title at Wilson Stadium on Nov. 26. Cleveland defeated La Cueva 75-61 in what was recorded as the highest scoring 11-man championship football game in state history.
