Rio Rancho police were looking for this vehicle Thursday after an officer involved shooting.

Early Thursday morning, a police officer was injured when a stolen vehicle rammed a police unit that had stopped the vehicle.

The Rio Rancho Police Department posted on Facebook that they were searching for a early 2000s, maroon Chevy Tahoe that fled the scene after the incident, which resulted in an officer involved shooting. The officer sustained a “non-life threatening injury.”

According to the post, RRPD officers stopped the stolen vehicle at 8:15 a.m. and attempted to detain the occupants before the shooting occurred. RRPD posted a picture of the vehicle on social media and wrote, “Rear window is blown out. Trash bag on right side. The suspects are outstanding and dangerous.”

RRPD closed Meadowlark Lane from Sara Road to Loma Larga Road. The vehicle fled toward Corrales and, after a lengthy search, was located around 12:42 p.m. near Central Avenue and Old Coors in Albuquerque. One individual was detained for questioning.

The investigation is still ongoing and the department is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Jennie Hatch at jhatch@rrnm.gov.
