School ratings are a major factor for prospective homeowners trying to decide what neighborhood to buy in.

The Neighborhood Journal will feature a different school in the Northeast and Northwest Albuquerque each week to help you understand how schools in those neighborhoods are performing.

Below you will find stats and rankings from Greatschools.org that will help you navigate the school scores in your neighborhood.

    Taylor Middle School

Taylor Middle School was established in 1964 in northwest Albuquerque.

    GreatSchool Ratings

Taylor Middle School has a 5/10 rating, and six reviewers have given the school three out of five stars. TMS is rated as the second-best public middle school in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque.

The GreatSchool Summary Rating, which includes test scores (5/10), academic progress (6/10) and equity (3/10), is 5/10 for Taylor.

    Student enrollment

The school has 377 students in grades 6-8, a ratio of 14:1 students per teacher.

    Reviews

One reviewer wrote: “The school is rundown and has not been kept up the past few years. The front office staff is rude and if they think you don’t speak Spanish they talk about you right in front of you. The security officer acts like a gang member and interacts inappropriately with students. The Gifted Teacher/Program is dumbed-down and of poor quality. The Administration is out of touch and so hyperconcerned with things like dress code and ordering donuts for students without misconduct referrals that there isn’t much focus on education!”

Another reviewer wrote: “The hygiene of the school is disturbing especially the lockers. The classrooms have trash all over, the hallways sometimes have bugs, the gym is incredibly dusty, and ironically the bathrooms are the cleanest, all they have is a little graffiti. I have been bullied but only 3 people helped and none of them were administrators or teachers even though the bullying was reported. The teachers have tried their best and the best subjects at doing that are language arts and science. I get put down everyday by other student and the teachers don’t make it much better. That is 2 and 2.5/4 years of experience at this school. (I don’t want to say too much so I don’t get tracked down and bothered. Many of schools deal with this so the rating is average.”
