Police were busy in northeast Albuquerque over the holidays. Responses to calls included a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian accident and a deceased tenant at the Extended Stay on Menaul. Law enforcement also netted 102 arrests during a warrant operation and eight repeat offenders in a separate holiday sweep at Uptown Shopping Center.
Dec. 26, 2022: Pedestrian killed by vehicle near Tramway and Eagle Rock NE
On Monday, Dec. 26, Albuquerque Police Department’s traffic unit responded to a fatal crash on the I-25 southbound frontage road near Tramway and Eagle Rock NE. The crash involved a small Honda SUV and a male pedestrian. A call for service was taken at an earlier time for an unknown male subject walking in the middle of I-25 southbound frontage road near Alameda Blvd. NE.
The pedestrian was hit by the Honda SUV before officers were able to search for the individual. The female driver of the Honda remained on scene and called for police after striking the pedestrian. Streetlights on the west side of the frontage road were out, making the area very dark.
The driver was screened on scene and showed no signs of impairment. According to an APD press release, the female driver was interviewed on scene and no charges are being pursued due pedestrian error. Speed or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the accident.
Dec. 24, 2022: Albuquerque police arrest 102 in warrant operation
APD officers made 102 arrests during a department-wide warrant operation last week.
The Field Services Bureau, the Investigative Bureau, the Special Operations Division, and the Crime Analysis Unit, partnered with the New Mexico Probation and Parole Department to conduct the operation.
According to a Dec. 24 APD press release, a total of 102 offenders were booked into the detention center, 122 total outstanding warrants were cleared, including 83 felony warrants and 39 misdemeanor warrants. Fifty-three new felony charges were filed, 11 stolen vehicles recovered, and two firearms seized.
Here is a breakdown of the operation by APD command areas:
Northeast: eight felony warrants, nine felony arrests and 11 misdemeanor warrants
Northwest: four felony warrants, two felony arrests, three misdemeanor warrants and one misdemeanor arrest.
Southwest: 10 felony warrants, four felony arrests and one misdemeanor warrant.
Valley: 23 felony warrants, five felony arrests and 16 misdemeanor warrants.
Southeast: 13 felony warrants, 20 felony arrests, two misdemeanor warrants, three stolen vehicles recovered and one firearm seized.
Foothills: 21 felony warrants, three felony arrests, five misdemeanor warrants and one firearm seized.
ISD/Tactical/CID: four felony warrants, 10 felony arrests, one misdemeanor warrant and eight stolen vehicles recovered.
Dec. 24, 2022: APD arrests 8 repeat offenders during holiday operation in Uptown
APD’s Organized Crime Unit and the Northeast Proactive Response Team arrested eight repeat felony offenders and summonsed three others during a Holiday operational plan in the Uptown Shopping District.
Among those arrested were:
- Marileysi Campos (March 28, 2001): arrested for a felony warrant for shoplifting
- Andrea Lujan (May 6, 1991): arrested for a felony warrant for burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor
- Adrian Aguero (Feb. 2, 1993): issued a criminal summons for misdemeanor shoplifting($244.98)
- Dominic Bottijliso (Aug. 6, 1990): arrested for possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl)
- Oscar Carbajal (Aug. 7,1982): arrested for both felony and misdemeanor warrants
- Nicodemas Soloman Garcia (Oct. 30, 1994): arrested for felony larceny ($998), conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony, tampering with evidence, two felony warrants, and criminal damage to property under $1,000
- Melanie Campos (March 6, 1991): cited for misdemeanor shoplifting
- Jeffery Sanchez (April 22, 1994): arrested for three felony warrants
- Nathan Castillo (Sept. 20, 1976): cited for misdemeanor shoplifting ($172)
- Nicholas Blas (Sept. 18, 1992): arrested for misdemeanor shoplifting ($469.99), compounding a crime, and possession of a controlled substance
- Jacob Barger (Aug. 5, 1989): arrested for two felony warrants for forgery and possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor warrant for traffic violations
Police also recovered more than $1,800 in stolen merchandise and returned it to the businesses. In addition, there were multiple criminal trespass notices issued to those arrested as well as several others.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, “This organized retail crime initiative continues to provide positive relationships between law enforcement and the Retail Asset Protection community. Along with numerous felony arrests, recent and continued investigations into retail crime have yielded information regarding the narcotics trade, stolen motor vehicles and other criminal activity. Investigation into the above-described crimes is ongoing.”
Dec. 23, 2022: Homicide investigation initiated after person found deceased at Extended Stay
Officers in the Northeast Area Command responded to a report of a deceased tenant in a room at the Extended Stay Hotel, located at 2108 Menaul Blvd. NE.
APD’s homicide detectives were called out to start an investigation.
