Albuquerque has taken a page out of Rio Rancho’s book and began using speed cameras to catch people who are driving above the posted speed limit.
Back in October, the city signed the speed ordinance into law. Warnings have been issued since April 24 with citations beginning May 25.
There will be a mix of permanent camera fixtures and mobile speed vans, like Rio Rancho uses.
Here’s what two of your neighbors think about Albuquerque’s effort to dissuade excessive speeders.
“I’m sick and tired of the race car drivers in Ventana Ranch,” said Jen Reyna, who lives in the neighborhood. “I’ve seen people walking and almost being hit by cars that are going way too fast. It’s dangerous and hopefully this will slow some people down.”
Matt Moree, who lives near Volcano Vista High School, feels the same way.
“I’m glad the city is doing something,” Moree said. “People drive like crazy around here. Especially on Paseo.”
