The space at the Promenade at 5200 Eubank Blvd. NE, previously the Barley Room, has gotten a full makeover and is due to reopen in December.
The restaurant was going to be called The Point from the High Point Grill and was scheduled to open in April but was postponed. New owners from Dave’s Valley Grill are now taking it over and calling it Dave’s High Desert Bar and Grill.
The space was The Barley Room since 2004 and was known for its karaoke nights. It closed in March 2020 due to pandemic restrictions, along with so many other Heights staples.
Dave’s Valley Grill, opened by Dave Hanisch in 2018, has become a popular brunch destination in the North Valley and made way for the opening of Dave’s Los Ranchos Lounge next door, catering to the evening crowds by offering a large selection of wines and a robust dinner menu. Hanisch announced the takeover of the Promenade space on social media Aug. 22, where he showed 360-degree previews of the fully remodeled space.
The restaurant was originally taken over by Chef Mike White of High Point Grill on Coors, which started as a from-scratch Italian kitchen called Rustico. It opened in 2020, but abruptly closed. Another eatery from White, called Bacon Jam near Candelaria and Carlisle NE, also opened and abruptly closed the same year.
The space went through a remodel and was renamed The Point at the Promenade and was going to offer steak and seafood but was taken over by Hanisch in August.
Although the space has had a whirlwind of changes during pandemic years, it seems to finally be reopening in December under Dave’s High Desert Bar and Grill and will offer American comfort food with a twist of classical cuisine.

Lindo Mexico still up in the airPeople have been anxiously awaiting for the better part of a year for another restaurant. Lindo Mexico was to open up in the same shopping center where Marie Callendar’s used to be. On the front door, there were promises of opening in mid-August, but due to the owners still waiting for their liquor license, that has been delayed. They said via their social media the location has been waiting since November 2021 to be approved. Lindo Mexico does hope to open by September if they’re finally able to get their license approved and thanked everyone for their patience.
