    Varsity volleyball team remains undefeated

    Volleyball

    The Lady Bears varsity volleyball team remains undefeated at 14-0, beating West Mesa 3-0 Tuesday evening in their most recent win. The team is ranked No. 1 in Division 5A, first in Albuquerque and first in New Mexico by MaxPreps. They were ranked No. 5 for Region 8 in a Sept. 29 USA Today Sports/American Volleyball Coaches Association girls volleyball regional rankings list during week 5, when the team was 10-0. In Tuesday’s game against West Mesa ,they won all three sets, 25-7, 25-5 and 25-8.  They are scheduled to play Piedra Vista in their next matchup Friday, Oct. 7, in a district away game starting at 6 p.m.

    Football

    La Cueva’s varsity team stomped Eldorado 63-21 during a Friday night district home game, upping their record to 6-1 for the season. They take on West Mesa in an away game Thursday, Oct 13. The Mustangs are 3-3 this season and ranked No. 23 in the state by MaxPreps. The Bears are ranked No. 3 in New Mexico and No. 2 in Division 6A.

    Soccer

    The boys varsity team defeated Eldorado 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 4. They have an 11-1-3 record and are ranked No. 3 in Division 5A, third in Albuquerque and third in New Mexico by MaxPreps. They are ranked No. 287 in the nation. Centennial High School is ranked No. 1 in New Mexico and No. 135 in the nation by MaxPreps.

    The girls varsity team lost to Eldorado 3-1 on Tuesday, bringing their record to 11-4 this season. The Lady Bears are ranked No. 5 in Division 5A, fifth in Albuquerque, sixth in New Mexico and No. 141 in the nation by MaxPreps. Eldorado is ranked No. 95 in the nation and No. 4 in the state. La Cueva’s next matchup against West Mesa is Thursday, Oct. 6, with kickoff scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

    Cross-country

    La Cueva’s boys and girls cross-country teams will compete in the Metro Championships beginning Saturday, Oct. 8, at the APS Nusenda Stadium. Races begin at 9:15 a.m. with the Girls Open C Race followed by the Boys Open C Race at 10 a.m. The rest of the day’s schedule is as follows:

    • 10:45 a.m. – Girls Open B-JV Race
    • 11:30 a.m. – Boys Championship Race
    • 12 p.m. – Girls Championship Race
    • 12:30 p.m. – Boys Open B-JV Race
