The Bears varsity volleyball team took first place at the Sally Moos Invitational Tournament in Centennial, Colorado, over the weekend. The team won all seven matches and lost one set against Thompson Valley, 25-27. The Bears came back to win the next two sets 25-17 and 15-9.

In an Instagram post, La Cueva Volleyball wrote, “Your La Cueva bears finished 1ST PLACE at the Sally Moos Invitational! We beat the reigning 4A Colorado State Champs, 5A Colorado State Champ Runner-Ups, 3A Colorado State Champs, and 3A Colorado State Champ Runner-Ups in the process! Showing CO what New Mexico is made of! Awesome job athletes and coaches!”

The Bears won the 5A State Championship last year, were ranked No. 1 in the state, and 70th in the country, according to MaxPreps.
