All three of La Cueva High School’s volleyball teams defeated Volcano Vista during Saturday’s home games for a complete sweep against their rivals.

The varsity team defeated the Hawks 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 for their second win of the season. Senior Ella Sanders had 15 kills against the Hawks and 22 kills in the Aug. 31 game against Rio Rancho, according to MaxPreps. Sophomore Karyna Werley racked up two kills against the Hawks and leads the team in assists, with 40 credited to her by MaxPreps.

The JV team beat the Hawks 25-14, 25-13 for their first win of the season. They lost their first game to Rio Rancho Aug. 31. The freshman team earned the win against Volcano Vista after taking two of the three sets, 25-15, 23-25, 15-8. The freshman and JV teams have a 1-1 record so far this year.

La Cueva’s varsity team takes on Albuquerque High in pool play of the Metro Championships at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. La Cueva is in Pool A alongside Albuquerque High, Atrisco Heritage and St. Pius, with the Sept. 6 game being played at Albuquerque High. Bracket play starts Sept. 9.

All three Lady Bears teams take on Manzano in non-district home games Tuesday, Sept. 13, starting at 4:30 p.m. for the freshman, 5:30 p.m. for JV and 6:30 p.m. for the varsity team.
