Cross-country

La Cueva’s boys varsity cross-country team took fourth place in the APS Metro Cross Country Championship 5,000 meter finals on Saturday. They finished with 133 points and an average team time of 17:28. Rio Rancho took first with 29 points and an average team time of 16:46. Spencer Gilbertson had the fastest time for the Bears, placing 13th with a time of 17:13.7.

The girls varsity team placed seventh in the 5,000 meter run finals with an average team time of 22:10. Junior Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos placed 11th in the race with a time of 10:19.50.

For the JV boys, Spencer Jenkins placed fourth with a time of 18:39.9 and Nikko Mihan took 10th with a time of 19:03.6. For the JV girls, Brooke Morelock placed fifth with a time of 22:29.50, while the Bears took second overall with an average team time of 23:18.

The girls C-team placed fourth overall with an average team time of 25:47. The boys C-team placed second with an average team time of 20:23. Junior Aaron Bournias placed fourth for the boys, with a time of 19:47.20.

Twitter user @becktwo_d posted a couple videos of Lady Bears cross-country runners competing on Saturday, writing, “Metro XC championships. La Cueva C-team on the course. Bears aren’t afraid of a little rain.”

Soccer

The boys varsity team is on a 10-game winning streak, defeating West Mesa 3-0 Thursday, Oct. 6. They are 6-0 in 5A District 2 with a 12-1-3 overall record. La Cueva takes on Piedra Vista in a district home game at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.

La Cueva’s girls varsity team shutout West Mesa 10-0 Thursday, Oct. 6, in district home game, bringing their record to 5-1 in 5A District 2. They are 12-4 overall and take on Piedra Vista at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in a district away game.

Volleyball

The varsity volleyball team remains undefeated at 15-0 after beating Piedra Vista in a district away game Friday, Oct. 7. They won all three sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-10. They take on Sandia Wednesday, Oct. 12, in a district away game. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.

Football

The Bears varsity team was on a bye week, getting some rest for the next district away game versus West Mesa Thursday, Oct. 13. That game starts at 7 p.m. La Cueva has a 6-1 overall record and is ranked first in 6A District 2/5 by MaxPreps.
