The La Cueva High School cheer team placed second in its division at the March 18 Spirit State Championship at the Pit, according to the results posted on the New Mexico Athletic Association webpage.

La Cueva’s “Las Ositas” cheer team scored a total of 182.10 points for their two performances, coming in behind first-place Rio Rancho and nearly three points ahead of Cleveland High School.

The two performances included a Gameday cheer and a Cheer with Music routine. LCHS Athletic Director Lee Moores and Principal Dana Lee posted photos and a video of the cheer and dance teams during the competition at the Pit on their school Twitter accounts.

In the March 19 dance competition, LCHS placed 10th with an overall score of 159.03 for their Pom and Military dance routines. Roswell High School took first place with a cumulative score of 181.26, Atrisco Heritage came in second with a score of 175.26, and Carlsbad placed third with a score of 171.53.
