Online media is ablaze with posts from students, staff and news reporters hyped up about La Cueva football. Headlines scream: “La Cueva hungry for another state title,” “La Cueva QB Armenta: The total package,” and “Friday Night Lights: La Cueva Heads to Rio Rancho HS for season opener.”

Ian Sanchez, slot receiver for the Bears, said in a recent Senior Spotlight that, “The ultimate goal is to do whatever it takes to help our team win a state championship.”

In La Cueva’s Friday night season opener, they take on Rio Rancho, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. When asked about who some of the bigger opponents are in a June Proview video with Sebastian Noel, Bears middle linebacker Mason Posa said Rio Rancho. “Rio was, they were big,” Posa said.

An Aug. 18 tweet from LCHS Bears Football reads, “Get HYPED for the 2022 Season!” with a link to a YouTube video showcasing some of last year’s highlights.

Friday night’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Rio Rancho Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID and $3 for seniors over 62. Children under the age of 5 are free. For those who can’t make it in person, the game will be streamed on the NFHS Network.
