Between the New Mexico United game and other events, parking lots were full around University of New Mexico Stadium on Saturday. Despite the huge crowds, athletes from La Cueva’s dance, cheer and football teams came out to support the Big Bad Bear Band as they performed at the 2022 Zia Marching Band Fiesta.

La Cueva took sixth place in the Class 4A competition with a score of 80.95. Clovis took first for the ninth year in a row, with a score of 91.65. La Cueva was fifth runner-up in 2021 and sixth runner-up in 2019.

The Zia Marching Band Fiesta is sponsored by UNM and is considered “one of the most prestigious marching band events in the Southwest,” according to the UNM website.
