Memorial Day weekend is here, and Tin Can Alley is the spot to be! Live music, a fundraiser for wildfire victims, and a pet adoption event will take place inside the stacked shipping containers over the weekend. When, if ever, the proposed splash pad at North Domingo Baca Park will be built is anybody’s guess. During a mid-March interview, City Councilor Brook Bassan said the proposed splash pad could be built as early as this summer. She said the splash pad is a separately funded project from the proposed aquatics center but did not provide an exact cost or timeline for construction. No, the city does not have plans to install bathrooms at Northeast Heights park locations anytime soon. The port-a-potties at Heritage Hills Park are temporary, most likely to accommodate construction workers at the park who were working on the water system earlier this month. Drew Ayotte, spokesperson for Albuquerque’s Parks and Recreation Department, said port-a-potties are usually only at parks temporarily. “I don’t think there’s any projects for bathrooms,” Ayotte said.
