Reckless driving may be the cause of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred near the intersection of Eubank and Candelaria Wednesday afternoon. Spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department Gilbert Gallegos said the motorcyclist was reportedly trying to flip off another driver when he hit a speed limit sign in the median. “The motorcycle was southbound on Eubank and a witness stated the motorcycle was driving recklessly prior to the crash,” Gallegos wrote in an email. “The motorcycle is a 2005 Blue Kawasaki. With the mix of vibrant colors, intersecting circles, splatters and half-moons, Mackenzie Teague’s artwork stands out from the rest. The untitled masterpiece is on display inside the African American Pavilion at the New Mexico State Fair alongside artwork from students from across the state. Students at Albuquerque Public Schools will watch a video or read a book in the upcoming weeks about how to deal with armed intruders on campus. The video was created at the request of high school students who wanted to know more about how to respond to dangerous situations. The video discusses a safety protocol called ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. In the video, APS Police Lt. Gas prices in the Duke City are about three cents cheaper than they were last week. According to AAA data, the average price of gas in Albuquerque was $3.51 around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. Last week, on Sept. 7, the average price of regular was $3.54.
