Until July 3, people in Albuquerque can take their dogs or cats to either the east or west side shelters to get free microchipping with no appointment necessary. Microchipping can cost $25-$50, but because of the number of lost animals coming into the shelters without chips to identify owners, the city shelters are currently waiving any fees. The Albuquerque City Council voted on and passed the Safe Outdoor Spaces ordinance, which is an initiative to make a dedicated space for the homeless population of the city, Monday night. A 5-4 vote with Councilor Trudy Jones along with Councilor’s Isaac Benton, Brooke Bassan, Tammy Fiebelkorn and Pat Davis were in favor. The Ditch & Water Safety Task Force is asking children to pledge to never go into a ditch or an arroyo, and if they do see someone enter a ditch or an arroyo to promise not to go in after them, but to call 911.
