Duke City Beaches and IAFF Local 244 is teaming up for second annual Spike for Survivors sand volleyball tournament sponsored by Topgolf. All proceeds will go to Albuquerque Area Firefighters Survivor Fund. The organizers of this event will match all funds generated and donate that amount to the families of the four fallen first responders in this week’s helicopter crash. Lt. Deanne Otzenberger has officially taken over as the acting commander of the Northeast Command of the Albuquerque Police Department, effective July 16.   She was most recently the night watch commander for the Northeast Command from spring 2020 to spring 2022 and is aware of the challenges and successes of the area. Puncturevine or Bindii — better known as goatheads in New Mexico — is an aggressively invasive weed that can take over your yard and become a headache that doesn’t go away. 1.New Mexico Belly Dance and Sirena Studio present the first-ever Burque BellyFest July 22-24. The event will have a full weekend of 10 workshops, performances and all things belly dance. Registration is now open. All workshops will be held at Sirena Studio, 9577 Osuna Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111, both days. Workshops are limited to 20 attendees unless otherwise noted.
