Average gas prices dropped from $3.53 to $3.28 in the 87111 zip code. The national average for regular gas last in August 2021 was $3.25 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.  Here are a few cheaper stations in the neighborhood for this week. • Sam’s and Costco on N. Renaissance NE are both at $3.18 per gallon, up five cents from last week. Eisenhower is having girls volleyball tryouts Aug. 22-24, and all paperwork must be turned in at the beginning of tryouts to qualify. The Eldorado Eagles are having their first football game of the season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.  The school’s Twitter calls for folks to “Orange Eldo Out” and come dressed in orange to cheer on the team against the Cibola High School Cougars. The game will be at Manzano HS Wilson Stadium, 12200 Lomas Blvd. NE.  Their next game will be with Rio Rancho Rams at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and their next home game against Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Registration for the eighth annual Sugar Skull Fun Run hosted by Bernalillo County is now open. People can walk, jog, run or strut along the Bosque near the National Hispanic Cultural Center Oct. 23. This year will boast a timed 5K to start with the leisurely fun-run afterward. The a one-mile strut and stroll will follow. Dia De Los Muertos attire is encouraged but not required. Embudito Trailhead at Indian School and Tramway will have eight less spots in the open space parking lot until the end of September. The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority will be working on the Simms Resevior erosion control project on the side slope of the water tank southeast of the parking area. Contractors will be using the south rows for materials and equipment, taking up the eight spaces. Monday night’s Council meeting got pretty heated as three hot topics were brought up: women’s health funding, the housing crisis and free speech rights of Albuquerque residents who do not want safe open spaces in their neighborhoods. Women’s health funding Councilor Renee Grout, District 9, proposed an amendment to R-22-46 to reappropriate the $250,000 funds previously approved to Planned Parenthood to instead go to the Homeless Support Services Program with the Barrett House Shelter nonprofit.
