The Albuquerque Police Department’s Motors Unit investigated three separate serious injury crashes on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. In the early morning of Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, there was a fatal crash involving a motorcycle at Paradise Blvd. NW and Paseo del Norte that the Motors Unit also responded to.

Below are updates on two investigations in the NE Heights.

    1837 Chandelle Loop NE

At about 3 p.m. Sept.10, the on-call Motors Unit was called out to a serious injury crash located on Chandelle Loop NE.

The investigation found a male was driving a white Ford F-150 on Rover when he crashed into the garage at 1837 Chandelle Loop NE.

A witness and friend of the driver said he was following her home after helping her buy a vehicle in the area and he was supposed to follow her home. On the way, she said, he suddenly passed her at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck then ran a red light through Tramway while heading west on Rover and continued until he crashed into the garage, continued through the wall and into a neighboring home.

The witness said the man involved in the incident was diabetic and may have been experiencing a medical episode throughout the incident. He was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

    The investigation is ongoing.

Tramway Blvd. and Menaul Blvd. N.E.

At about 6 p.m. Sept. 10, the Motors Unit was called to a crash at Tramway Blvd. NE and Menaul Blvd. NE involving a blue Suzuki motorcycle and a white Mazda SUV.

The motorcycle was traveling north on Tramway, in the left-turn bay, to turn west on Menaul. The SUV was heading south on Tramway, approaching Menaul. Both drivers continued through a yellow light when the Mazda T-boned the motorcycle, causing critical injuries to the motorcyclist, who remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Mazda is not suspected of being impaired by drugs or alcohol, and it is unknown if speed was a factor in the crash.
