Summer events are heating up in the Heights, and here a few things to do to spice up the weekend.
1. Crusin’ Coffee at Rust is Gold hosted by Speed Shark Garage features classic and collector vehicles. Cars will roll in at 9 a.m. and folks can check out cars from all over the world and throughout the decades. RIG will have drink specials and is located at 3732 Eubank Blvd. NE.
2. Summerfest Summer Market will feature more than 50 vendors, performances from dancing star studios, free face painting and food trucks. The market hosted by Aaria Boutique will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 9577 Osuna Road NE, off Eubank in the shopping plaza behind Blake’s.
3. Pop-up picnic date night for couples at Academy Hills Park gives self-guided digital activities of five love language mantras while watching the sunset. Food is not provided, but discount codes for food delivery are, as well as a digital date night box that includes a series of activities to bring couples together. All that is needed is a smart phone to download the app. The event is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 7, and it’s asked that participants donate $10 when selecting a date here.
Citywide events
4. The 2022 Neighborhood Open Spaces Community Concerts come to Tijeras BioZone Open Space at 15600 Central Ave. SE Saturday. The events are a celebration of open spaces that feature live music, performers and views of public lands under the setting sun. There will also be paletas, face painting, a Bosque traveling exhibit truck, a rock climbing wall and hands-on nature activities. Attendees are invited to bring a chair or blanket and picnic dinner to this family-friendly event from 6-8 p.m. Additional date are Aug. 20 and Sept. 17. For more information, click here.
5. Body art enthusiasts are invited to attend the New Mexico Tattoo Fiesta Friday through Sunday at the Isleta Resort & Casino. Research shows that tattoos have gained increasing popularity over the past decade with research estimating more than 40% of the population having at least one piece of body art. The fiesta selects the best artists across the country to bring to this three-day event and allows attendees to get to know the history of the artists while also providing a safe way for people to get tattoos. 6. Saturday is your chance to meet Tuco and NoDoze from the hit shows “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.” Actors Raymond Cruz (Tuco) and Cesar Garcia (NoDoze) will meet fans for one day only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Breaking Bad Store ABQ, 2047 S. Plaza St. NW. Tickets for the event are $100 with 130 available. They can be purchased at the store or online at breakingbadstoreabq.com. Tickets are single admission only and guarantee a meet-and-greet with the actors, autographs from both and a photo with the duo. Photos for autographs will be provided or you may bring a single item for them to sign. Purchases of Tuco or NoDoze items from the store will entitle you to additional autographs on those items, limited to four.
7. This weekend marks the final chance to see “Edmund and the Astronaut” at Fusion, 700-708 First St. NW. This original science-fiction play starring Ross Kelly and Elijah Kelly is the world’s first fully produced stage play to star a remote-controlled robot. It is written and produced by Ross Kelly and Sarah Loeppke. Show times are 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday with tickets $20 for general admission or $15 for students and seniors age 66-plus. Bonus: For those looking for activities for the kids, check out Friday’s Movie on the Plaza with a free screening of “The Goonies” at 7 p.m. Additionally, Teen Nights return to Albuquerque, kicking off with the Sunport Pool Party from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Sunport Pool, 2033 Columbia Dr. SE. The event features DJ Warehouse 508, an iceberg in the pool, volleyball and games in the grass, pizza and snacks. Registration is required and can be made here.
