Summer tends to bring out all the bugs, and with the monsoon season just around the corner, it’s useful to know the Water Utility Authority offers manholes spraying for problem roach invasions. It is easy to set up a service request, which can prevent pests from eventually making their way into people’s sinks, toilets and tubs.

When an infestation problem is found, the WUA will spray nearby manholes with boric acid, which is not toxic to humans or animals, according to their site.

Homeowners, businesses and renters can also request this service, which is included with water service. It is recommended to get nearby neighbors to make requests as well, so sewer swarms truly move on instead of just temporarily migrating. Treatments tend to last for six months, and the roaches usually only venture out through the warmer months.

The WUA can also investigate strong odors coming from sewer lines, which can be a symptom of issues in the sewer collection system. To report an outdoor odor issue, fill out the form here.
