An expected low of 33 degrees Monday night serves as a reminder to bring in plants or prepare them for freezing temperatures.
For those wanting to save any outdoor potted plants, Monday is the day to bring them in. Also, for those that might want to save any rooted outdoor plants or prepare a garden for next spring, master gardener Dan Humbles from the city Parks and Recreation Department suggests mulching around 3-4 inches around the bases of plants with newspaper scrapes or wood mulch as well as covering them with a thick and sturdy plastic tarp. This can make a sort of greenhouse, allowing the plants a chance to survive the cold winter nights.
Also, don’t forget to let the pets in and put a drip on any faucets prone to freezing.
