Ventana Ranch Elementary School will be collecting items next week to help support families in Northern New Mexico whose lives have been impacted by the wildfires.

Gilberta Padilla, a teacher at VRES, has seen her family suffer in the north as her parents lost their home to the fires.

“The teachers here heard about my parents’ house and wanted to do something for them,” Padilla said. “I thought we should do something for the entire community.”

Fellow teachers Taylor Yagow, Liz Hernandez and Marina Delgado got together to organize the Northern New Mexico Relief Drive.

The drive will be collecting items Tuesday through Friday next week and delivering the goods to the Memorial Middle School shelter in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Saturday. All donations will be shared with Mora County.

You can drop off donations all day at the school Tuesday during the VRES Fun Run and from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
