Volcano Vista’s track and field teams had a solid showing at the Albuquerque Public Schools Invitational over the weekend.

The boys team finished first and the girls were second place at the meet. The school had multiple athletes post state championship-qualifying times.

Among the highlights from Friday and Saturday’s event at Community Stadium:

  • Mariana Marquez won the 400-meter dash
  • Carysa Marquez won the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200
  • Bridger Schapp won the boys 400-meter dash
  • Both the boys and girls teams won there four by 400-meter relay
  • Daniel Campos won the shot put event

Volcano Vista’s next meet will be Friday at Cleveland High School for the Storm Relays.

The 2022 state track and field championships are May 13-14 at UNM Track-Soccer Complex.
