VOLLEYBALL

It was good news and bad news for the Volcano Vista High School volleyball team this weekend. The Hawks got their first win of the season Friday night at Albuquerque High, beating the Bulldogs by scores of 16-25, 25-22, 27-25, 26-24.

The Hawks fell to 1-2 on the season Saturday after losing in three sets to the defending state champions La Cueva. The scores were 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.

The Hawks begin the 2022 APS Metro Tournament with pool play Tuesday at Sandia High School. VVHS plays Rio Grande at 4 p.m., then plays Sandia and Cibola.

FOOTBALL

The Hawks improved their record to 3-0 with a 32-19 victory at Carlsbad Friday night.

Elliot Pasket-Bell threw for 127 yards and a touchdown and ran for 103 yards and two scores for the Hawks. Volcano Vista rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns.

The Hawks face a tough test Friday night when they play La Cueva at Wilson Stadium.

SOCCER

The boys team at VVHS fell short in the finals of the Albuquerque Metro Championships Friday at the Soccer Complex.

An early goal for the Hawks was not enough as Albuquerque High rallied to tie the match at 2-2 before winning the trophy on penalty kicks.
