Band

Volcano Vista took fourth in the prestigious Zia Marching Band Fiesta Saturday at University Stadium.

The Hawks scored 82.9 points, less than nine less than Clovis which won the event for the ninth straight year.

Volleyball

Volcano Vista continued to struggle, falling in four sets against Rio Rancho Thursday. The Hawks (10-8, 0-3 1-5A) lost their third straight match.

Soccer

Asher Saban scored to lead the boys team to a 1-0 win over Atrisco Heritage Saturday as the Hawks (12-1-3, 5-0-1 in District 1-5A) stayed perfect in district play.

The girls team (11-6, 5-2 1-5A) had a much easier time vs. Atrisco, winning 7-1. Both teams wrap up the regular season against Cibola this weekend.

Cross-country

The boys finished first and the girls team was third at the Academy Extravaganza Saturday at Albuquerque Academy. The boys had 36 points while the girls finished with 89.

Thomas Croshaw won the 5,000-meter boys race with a time of 15:37.33. Teammate  Orion Chavez was second at 16:02.52. Stoney Cutchen was sixth (16:16.38); Cruz Sanchez was 13th (16:36.10); Dallan Reed was 14th (16:39.36); Jude Lucero was 23rd (17:11.19 23);  Dominic Velasquez was 31st (17:27.48); Carter Larsen was 55th (18:06.41) and  Chris Gomez finished 66th (18:20.98).
