More perfection is headed to the Pit.

A night after the undefeated girls basketball team advanced to the state semifinals, the Volcano Vista boys punched their ticket with an easy win over No. 10 Carlsbad.

The second-seed Hawks (27-0) never trailed in cruising to a 69-29 win Wednesday night at Volcano Vista High School.

Kaden Valdez had 15, and Ja’Kwon Hill added 12 for the Hawks. It was the last home game for Volcano Vista’s seven seniors.

Kaden Valdez, center, scored 15 points to lead Volcano Vista to victory Wednesday.

“I think we played well; we were ready,” Volcano Vista head coach Greg Brown said. “It was important for us to play well because it was our seniors’ last game on this court and it was special to them.”

Volcano Vista never trailed, with the score 25-5 after one quarter and 43-14 at the half.

It was more the same as Volcano stretched its lead to 37 before resting most of its starters in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks’ win sets up a juicy rematch with La Cueva, which fell to Volcano 60-59 in December, in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Friday.

“Our season continues, and that’s what we wanted,” Brown said. “We wanted to keep this thing going and we did that.”
