Strolling along the paths at Academy Hills Park, people can see some of the trees are adorned with hand-painted mini-birdhouses.

Although the holes in these tiny homes may be too small for most native New Mexico birds, the structures can be used by pollinators or other small tree-dwelling insects.

For a quick, affordable crafts project for the kids, which also benefits the birds and bees, these mini birdhouses can be found at any Dollar Tree store for $1.25, also paints, brushes, twine or stencils can be bought as well for only $1.25 each at Dollar Tree.

It only takes about 30 minutes to an hour to paint these small structures and can be hung with some twine. Kids can hang them in their own back yards or venture out to the park to find them a good home like the ones above found at Academy Hills Park.
