Anna Q. on Eisenhower neighborhood Nextdoor page said her license plate was swapped. She is not sure exactly when the swap happened, but she noticed the difference while on lunch break Tuesday, March 22.

Another nearby resident, Sonia Puccini, who works out at the Brickz Fitness off Paseo Del Norte, said she captured a man, seen above, in the act of switching an existing plate and driving off.

Another resident, John, said he and his neighbors had plates switched out in 2017, and that it continues to be a common occurrence.

Neighbors had suggestions for making license plates more difficult for thieves to take, such as using permanent rivets, security screws or liquid nails.

Criminals tend to use the plates on stolen cars, vehicles without proper registration as well as using the plates during a crime.

Although license plate information is on people’s paperwork, it is advised to take a photo to keep on one’s phone for later reference.
