Community members interested in building strategic partnerships are invited to a June 30 webinar hosted by the Office of Neighborhood Coordination in conjunction with Dr. Rudy Garcia of Tandem Consulting. The virtual lunch and learn is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Zoom. To register for the event, click here.

Vanessa Baca, ONC Manager, said the webinar is open to anyone who wants to attend, and the training can help neighborhood associations develop new partnerships. She said sometimes it can be difficult for association members to find common ground and that the training provides tools to improve internal relationships as well as communication between associations.

Baca said sometimes neighborhood associations want to do something another association has already done and “rather than reinventing the wheel,” members can benefit from “establishing a partnership” and learning from each other.

According to the webinar registration page, “Attendees will learn to understand why partnerships are necessary to solve complex community problems, identify different types of community partners who can form an effective partnership and become familiar with organizing an effective community partnership.”

The Office of Neighborhood Coordination works to help foster neighborhood relationships, build neighborhood involvement, improve communication between neighborhoods and city departments, and promotes neighborhood events and initiatives, among other efforts. The ONC website also provides information on the neighborhood sign program, lists neighborhood association websites in the city, and answers frequently asked questions about neighborhood associations.

Garcia’s LinkedIn page says he is the co-owner of Tandem Consulting and is skilled in civility training, leadership development, strategic planning, organizational development, and team building. Garcia also helped to facilitate neighborhood engagement for the Neighborhood Association Recognition Ordinance update.

More information on the ONC can be found at cabq.gov/office-of-neighborhood-coordination. Baca said the ONC offers training on a monthly basis and that past webinars can be found on the ONC’s YouTube channel. A May 2 video, seen below, discusses the services and resources provided by the Albuquerque Community Safety Department and the much anticipated Gateway Center for the homeless near the Gibson Medical Center acquired by the city.
