Every month the Albuquerque Police Northeast Area Command will be introducing a new team in their monthly newsletter, and Team 3 is this month’s introduction. Team 3 are patrol units who answer an array of calls from 911 dispatchers, such as auto accidents and thefts, to robberies and homicides. The NE Area Command encourages residents to come up and say hello if you see them out in the field.

“Each officer is assigned to a beat area within the Area Command. Team 3 is lead by Sgt. Charles Sanchez. He is a 12-year veteran who enjoys fishing and hunting when he’s not on duty. Team 3 members include Ofc. Chris Real, Ofc. Jesse Jaramillo, Ofc. Manny Perez, Ofc. Alex Couch and Ofc. Anna Montoya. Officer Couch likes to play golf and ride ATV’s in his off time. Ofc. Perez, coaches his daughter’s softball and soccer teams.”

Typically, officers work a 12-hour shift with three shifts in a day, and anywhere from 26 to 38 officers in the field at one time. The number of officers can fluctuate from month to month, depending on how many are on temporary assignment in different departments, or on special proactive task force operations.

Stats for the NE Area Command for the month of May include, 724 traffic stops, 116 suspicious contacts, 524 logged patrol checks, and 61 field briefings.

If residents want to know more or get more involved in what the NE Area Command is doing, people can actually sign up to be a volunteer community policing council member. The council is a mediator that engages in meaningful dialogue between APD and the citizens the department serves. The council is encouraged to formally recommend changes for the better in policies and procedure, as well as identifying concerns and successes within each area command.

There are currently two openings and it’s easy to fill out an application here.
