Clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Barbara Koltuska-Haskin will discuss key findings from her award-winning book “How My Brain Works” at Cherry Hills Library Saturday, June 11. The discussion will take place outside on the library’s back patio. Registration is required to attend the event.

“How My Brain Works: A Guide to Understanding It Better and Keeping It Healthy” won first place at the 2021 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards in the Health/Diet/Nutrition category and first place in the 2021 IAN Book of the Year Awards in the Health/Medicince category. The book provides tips and advice on how to improve brain function using new research and old knowledge from the physical, psychological, nutritional, and spiritual worlds.

Koltuska-Haskin’s writing can also be found on the Psychology Today website, where she has several blog posts that discuss how the brain works and different ways to keep it healthy. Posts on the Psychology Today website include “Yoga and the Brain,” “Why Gardening is Good for the Body and the Brain,” and “How Nuerofeedback Can Help You,” among others. Koltuska-Haskin’s post on neurofeedback says the “computer-guided, noninvasive brain-function training based on EEG feedback” can be used to help treat PTSD, ADHD and long-term COVID.

According to the blog post, “The study by Luckos, M. et al. (2021) concluded that neurofeedback may be helpful in reducing neurocognitive dysfunctions in patients with long-term COVID.” In another post titled “The Story of a Roadrunner and Meditations”, Koltuska-Haskin says, “Much research suggests that meditation is at least as effective or can be more effective than medications for mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.”

Koltuska-Haskin will go into more detail about her research and findings on cognitive health during Saturday’s discussion.
