A recent poll on NextDoor asking residents what topics they want the Neighborhood Journal to report on in their neighborhoods indicate respondents in the far Northeast Heights are interested in seeing more crime coverage. Of the 24 respondents, 50% chose crime as the topic they want more news reporting on in their neighborhood.
The next highest category chosen was neighborhood association news, followed by housing/business news, entertainment, traffic/road construction news, and then school news. The full results are posted below:
One comment under the poll suggests all the topics are newsworthy. Melissa R. of Heritage East wrote, “Actually, all those suggestions shown are good to me!” In another comment, Bob Bruno of North Albuquerque Acres wrote, “Actually, I’d like to know whatever happened to the shooting that Baldwin was involved in? Just go away? Also I’d like to know what happened to Sheryl Williams Stapleton (powerful state rep) that allegedly swindled $$$ from the state?”
In addition, North Star Elementary School Principal Misty Smith requested the Neighborhood Journal write about school registration. Smith replied to a request for news ideas in a direct message, writing, “Hello! I’m a principal at a local elementary – I’d love (appreciate) you getting the word out about school registration, specifically kindergarten. Thanks!”
A question posted on NextDoor and sent via email on July 7 asked area residents what is going on in their community they want the Neighborhood Journal to write about. The two responses from far Northeast Heights neighbors suggest road construction and traffic are some of the more important issues they want additional reporting on.
Jerry Little of Heritage East responded, “How about the city process for resurfacing roadways. Some of the streets in the NEH are getting resurfaced even though they are in better shape than some of the more egregious offenders.”
Another response came as a reply in a thread about the new traffic signal on Paseo del Norte and Tramway. The reply reads, “. . . sit in your car for about ten minutes and watch southbound traffic on Browning to westbound Paseo. There is a light there, but no one has noticed it in the 20 something years I’ve been out here.”
